Keeping G1: no Renewal App

The ASE Renewal App is not for G1: it covers A1–A9 only. An A-series holder pays $52/yr for the app, $260 over five years, however many A certifications it keeps current, with no test appointment. A G1 holder books and passes the G1R test every 5 years instead.

  • G1R alone in an order: $62 test fee plus the $34 registration fee.
  • G1R with other recertification tests: one registration fee covers the order, and recert test fees are capped, so the order is $220 at most.

If you hold other ASE certifications that come due the same year, put G1R in the same order.

Testing from home saves the trip

Where you sit it is up to you: test center or remote proctoring at home or work (Prometric ProProctor), first attempt included. Testing at home or at work saves the drive and the half day off, and the fee is the same either way.

Students: a route without the G1 test

Students in ASE-accredited programs who pass a set list of 8 ASE entry-level tests can earn G1 without taking it. The G1 guide doesn't name the eight tests, so ask your program which ones count before you plan around it.

Retakes and lost fees

  • Retake: wait 30 days, then buy the test again. On its own that's another $96, registration included.
  • Refunds: untaken, unexpired tests canceled within 90 days of purchase are refunded.
  • Changes: 90 days from purchase to schedule and take the test; no changes within 3 days of the appointment.
  • Lateness: late candidates can be turned away and lose the fee (Need to Know, p. 3).
